How do you get an almost permanent film off of drinking glasses from dishwasher?

Almost all of our drinking glasses have formed this almost permanent film from our dishwasher. We have tried a lot of different things with no luck. Are there any tips on how to get this off? Sometimes it is like a whitish-clear film and other times it looks like a rainbowy oil-slick. Any tips would be great!!! Thanks.

Some dishwashers recommend jet dry. I would try that or perhaps filling your rinse holder with vinegar, it works on my coffee pot, I think it should work on your glassware.
